Our clients, a husband-and-wife duo of elopement photographers, live and work from their countryside steading just outside Edinburgh. Deeply connected to Scotland’s landscapes and Celtic heritage, they sought to transform their outdated bathroom into a serene, luxurious retreat that reflects their creative lifestyle and rural setting.

They envisioned a space grounded in nature – functional yet indulgent, visually inspiring and restorative. The wife requested a freestanding bath set apart from the main elements: a personal sanctuary for reading, candlelit soaks, and quiet rituals.

We designed a calming, immersive environment, balancing modern utility with natural beauty. The palette draws from the surrounding countryside—mossy greens, stone textures, and soft light. The bath was placed beneath the window in a cocooned zone, separated for privacy and tranquillity.

The sink area features Dryoy green tiles reminiscent of ancient woodland, paired with a dark grey wall-hung basin unit for contrast. Warm-toned Dorset white tiles on surrounding walls nod to traditional whitewashed Scottish homes, softening the space.

A low-profile dark shower tray grounds the walk-in shower, while a tall black towel radiator adds vertical interest. Brushed brass fixtures throughout introduce warmth and a subtle Celtic echo.

The result is a harmonious blend of tradition and contemporary comfort – a deeply personal sanctuary that reflects the couple’s artistry, love of nature, and commitment to slow, intentional living.
