Lovely showroom in Uphall and plenty of product on display. Ended up getting bifolding doors last year so my review is long overdue. Recently had a remedial issue and the customer care I received was great. I must thank Callum for arranging for replacement parts and for a fitter to attend. Thank you ekco.

Had a great experience with ekco from start to finish. The staff were very helpful and communicated well throughout our project. The tradesmen were efficient and showed up on time. I was very impressed by their standard of workmanship and how they would tidy up after themselves. Everything was completed in a timely manner and I’m delighted with my new bathroom.

Aluminium-clad timber windows from EKCO, one of Scotland’s premier window and door suppliers, are among the finest available today. Our frames are precision-manufactured using softwood from certified sustainable sources to provide warmth and energy efficiency. The frames are then clad in aluminium, one of the most environmentally sustainable materials on the planet.
The addition of aluminium adds more strength to the frame and increases the lifespan of the windows without the need for regular maintenance. This combination of wood and aluminium ensures that aluclad windows are the perfect choice for any type of home or commercial property.
The Warmth Of Timber
Timber has been used in window and door construction in Scotland and across Britain for centuries as it was readily available and easy to work with. Timber is also naturally warm and a good insulator.
The organic structure of timber holds tiny air pockets which act as barriers for heat and cold which means it can keep your home warmer for longer during cold spells. Timber window frames are also robust and, with regular maintenance, can last for years before needing replaced.
Aluminium is one of the most sustainable materials on Earth and can be recycled almost indefinitely without losing any of its original qualities. By adding a layer of aluminium cladding to our timber window frames we not only increase the lifespan by decades but also make them stronger which in turn makes your home more secure.
Aluminium clad timber windows also make the perfect choice for homes or commercial properties such as hotels and restaurants in coastal locations as the aluminium helps to protect the frames from salt erosion or dampness from ‘haar’ – a typically Scottish coastal fog.
EKCO Tilt And Turn Aluclad Timber Windows
One of our most popular window designs is the EKCO aluclad timber Tilt and Turn window which offers a range of features, including built-in ventilation, easy cleaning, and escape options as standard.
This inward-opening window can also be customised to meet specific safety and security regulations with Tilt-first or Tilt-only options alongside a range of restrictors and a choice of handles. One of the main benefits of the Tilt and Turn system is the ability to produce large sash sizes, ensuring maximum ventilation and light – even with high-spec glazing.
Durability And Design
All EKCO aluclad windows are manufactured using the highest quality materials. We only use FSC certified softwood timber, which is finger jointed. Finger jointing is a process of connecting wood using a locking system which looks like interlaced fingers. This allows us to reduce waste, which is better for the environment, yet create longer pieces of wood for larger scale windows while making the frames stronger. We then laminate them to ensure a consistently high standard of quality, security and durability in every completed frame.
We also supply a non-finger jointed option if required, along with a choice of Oak and Accoya, as well as hardwood and softwood combinations. And for peace of mind all our aluminium-clad timber windows meet the requirements of PAS24 and Secured by Design.
Unrivalled Quality And Safety As Standard
Easy cleaning, escape options and ventilation are built-in as standard with our aluminium-clad timber windows. For example, with our Tilt and Turn windows you can choose to either tilt then turn for fuller opening or tilt alone, which gives a restricted opening. There are also a range of restrictors and handle choices available to give you the highest level of functionality and ease of use.
There are also large sash sizes available which deliver maximum ventilation and light – even with high glazing specifications. This is ideal when you require a more unusual bespoke size for new build architecturally designed homes of commercial properties.
Energy Efficiency
Energy efficiency of windows and doors is measured in terms of U-values; the lower the U-value, the more energy efficient your home is. You will therefore be pleased to know that our range of aluminium-clad timber windows have among the lowest U-values available making them highly energy efficient which is good for the environment, and good for your pocket.
Range of Design Options
EKCO aluminium clad timber windows are available in a range of design options. The system features a 109 mm back to front frame section, with the choice of either a 65 mm, 90 mm or 120 mm frame height. Glazing depths also range from 24 mm double glazing to 48 mm triple glazing.
Although white is the standard shade for these windows, we also offer a full range of RAL and NCS colours to choose from. Also, depending on the location of your home or commercial property, we may recommend adding a Teknos water-based coating system or preservative to further protect your window so they will remain in perfect condition in the years to come as they were the day they were installed.
