Mr & Mrs Beckitt
Brief: Upgrade bathroom in period home. Our clients had asked tasked us to completely upgrade the bathroom in their Edwardian period home which, when finished, should also be suitable for a person with a physical disability. Apart from the one stipulation that the room had to have a light, airy feel Ekco had a blank canvass with regards to the design. It was therefore essential for Ekco’s award-winning bathroom designer, Hollie Kerr, to completely understand the clients’ needs before progressing with the job so she spent time discussing the project with them before commencing. The end result is a bathroom which is sympathetic to the period, but is also suitable for the clients’ needs and 21st century living. The main white colour scheme is offset by black sanitary ware in period style with chrome fittings. A white period style radiator was also fitted. The design, coupled with the contrasting black tiles floor tiles against the white pays homage to the start of the Art Deco period of interior design. The bath was removed to make space for a walk-in shower for better access. easier access. The shower area was fitted with a Grohe column which is perfect for the water pressure in the house, a rain-shower head and a hand shower for seated showering. To keep the floor area as clear as possible a bathroom which contains a power point for charging electric toothbrushes and other electric items was wall-mounted above the sink. The door was also re-hung to the outside to allow for easier access to the bathroom. Finally, a ceiling mounted period style light was added for a further touch of opulence. Our clients were delighted with the finished bathroom. It far exceeded their brief and came in £250 under their allocated budget.
