Elaine Marshall has done her fair share of globetrotting with husband John’s career in the oil industry taking them all over the world. They were keen, however, to establish a base in Scotland ultimately deciding on their beautiful ground floor flat in the heart of Edinburgh’s Newtown.
However, their immediate plans to start making changes to their new home were put on hold for a couple of years due to another overseas contract. So on their return to Scotland in August last year they were very keen to start the process to replace the existing bathroom & kitchen and also to create an en-suite in the guest bedroom.
“EKCO responded promptly to all requests”
Elaine had clear ideas of what she wanted to achieve with this significant makeover. She approached a number of local and national kitchen & bathroom retailers including EKCO to provide design ideas. She had visited the EKCO showroom in Stockbridge, a short distance from her property, and was pleasantly surprised at the range of Kitchen & Bathroom products on display. There she met Kevin who specialises in Bathroom design and subsequently met Heather Bruce, co-owner of the company with husband Stewart, who looked after her kitchen project. Keenly aware of current trends, Elaine wanted a German kitchen for quality, flexibility and outstanding modern design.
After Stewart’s initial survey of the property, Kevin & Heather produced their respectivedesign ideas for the bathroom plus en-suite and the kitchen. Elaine found the full colour, 3 dimensional presentations to be invaluable in choosing her preferred design for each room from the alternatives offered. She also commented that being able to see examples of the design ideas in the even larger showroom in Uphall greatly assisted her to come to her final decisions.
Although some of the other retailers impressed in certain areas, Elaine decided to award the complete contract to EKCO based on the quality of their designs, the competitive price offered, complete project management and the ease of dealing with a single company for all three rooms. She was particularly impressed at this stage and subsequently that “EKCO Responded promptly to all requests."
The following installations were not without their challenges as is often the case with traditional properties. Re-locating the boiler and integrating it with the Kitchen furniture resulted in the clean simple but sharp appearance Elaine wanted. Creating the en-suite required consultation with a structural engineer to ensure modifications to the floor construction to accommodate services was done correctly and satisfied building regulations.
“Treated professionally by everyone at EKCO”
This complex work was arranged and co-ordinated by EKCO in addition to a partial re-wiring of the property and the installation of new radiators throughout. Elaine had complete confidence in the EKCO team allowing them to complete the installation while she and John were on holiday. Elaine felt that she had been “Treated professionally by everyone at EKCO”. Elaine summed up her satisfaction with her new kitchen, bathroom and en-suite in two words,"Absolutely Perfect."
